About Us
Rescue the mistreated – Save the injured – Love the abandoned
Steve Shur absolutely loves animals and cats are his true love. When stray cats started showing up at his farm in rural Cecil, Wisconsin, the felines quickly became like family. Then, when word got out that Steve loves animals, people started asking him to care for abandoned, injured and stray cats. Since 2020, Steve Shur has rescued and sheltered many furry felines.
“We all just feel so lucky to spend our days caring for the most precious animals ever! When they feel good, we feel good.”
– Shur Rescue Volunteer

No Kill Animal Shelter for Cats
Witnessing an increasing number of domesticated and feral cats in need of sanctuary, Steve Shur and his team opened Shur Rescue in 2025. When cats and kittens arrive at the animal shelter, they are carefully evaluated, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, administered medicine and provided with follow-up care as needed. The privately owned, no kill shelter cultivates a healthy, happy environment for cats and kittens. Shur Rescue strives to find loving, permanent homes by encouraging kitten and cat adoption. Additionally, Shur Rescue assists with Trap, Neuter and Return of feral cats. We offer traps and referrals to spay/neuter service providers.
Lost, Surrendered & Stray Cats
Shur Rescue works closely with local veterinarians to provide the best medical care possible for lost, surrendered and stray cats. The shelter doesn’t compromise veterinary care based on cost. Thus, Shur Rescue relies on donations from the community to assist with the cost of veterinary treatment for cats and kittens that the shelter rescues, rehabilitates and cares for.

Our Mission
Shur Rescue is an organization that is dedicated to the survival and well-being of cats. Our mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of any cat whether it’s feral or domesticated, adolescent or adult. We strive to ensure only the best possible diet/supplements are provided to each and every cat based on their health requirements/needs. Each and every cat at the rescue is provided a sanctuary and a safe and sound shelter until they find their forever home. In addition to this, all the cats that are taken in will be provided up-to-date veterinary attention including de-worming, shots, spaying/neutering and any other health requirements to ensure their well-being.
